MEMPHIS, Mo. -- Mother Nature might not have been warm, but the racing action on the final night of the 2nd Annual Pizza Hut Memphis Fall Nationals at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway was firey hot. Jeremy Payne (Keith's Foods Late Models), Terry Phillips (Bentz GM Country USRA Modifieds), Tom Schmitt (USRA Stock Cars), Jeff Waterman (Advance Trading USRA B-Modifieds), Bill Gibson (USRA Hobby Stocks), Dan Wenig (Outlaw Hobbies) and John Brown (Hornets) all taking the big pay checks back home with them.

The 10-lap Hornet feature was the first to take to the speedway, with Ronald Kibbe and Chuck Fullenkamp leading the field to the green. Kibbe would take advantage of his front row start to grab the lead on lap 1 and then held it until lap 6, when Brooke Hassler, who started thirteenth, slipped by for the lead. Hassler then held the top spot until lap 9 when he and Travis DeMint, who started fourteenth, made contact allowing John Brown, who started twelfth, to get by for the lead. Brown then held on for the final lap to pick up the win and the $300 top prize. Hassler recovered to finish in second, with DeMint holding on for third, Sarah Woodhurst came from eleventh to finish in fourth, with Fullenkamp holding on for fifth.

Up next was the 15-lap USRA Hobby Stock feature, with Bill Gibson and Jason McDaniel on the front row. Gibson grabbed the lead on the drop of the green flag and then held it until lap 10, when Wood slipped by for the top spot. But a caution would come out before the lap was complete, giving the lead back to Gibson. Gibson once again grabbed the lead on the restart and then held on for the final five laps to claim the $600 top prize. Wood settled for second, Donnvan Nunnikhoven came from eighth to finish in third, Bob Lynch was fourth, with Tim Kraber, who started tenth, rounding out the top five.

Beau Taylor and Michael St. Clair made up the front row for the 15-lap Outlaw Hobby main event, with Taylor jumping out front on lap 1. Taylor then held the top spot until lap 9 when Rodger Dresden edged him out at the line by inches to take over the lead. Dresden and Taylor continued to battle for the lead, as Dan Wenig, who started fourteenth, was working his way towards the front. Wenig would make his move for the lead on the final lap, as he slipped under Dresden coming off of turn four to grab the $700 pay check. Dresden settled for second, Derek Reimer was third, Taylor held on for fourth, with Tony Becerra coming home in fifth. Derek Dettmann and Dan Wenig took the last chance race wins.

The 20-lap USRA Stock Car feature was another one that came down to the final lap, as Tom Schmitt held off Zack VanderBeek for the win. Schmitt and VanderBeek made up the front row, with Schmitt moving out front on the drop of the green flag. Schmitt held the lead for all 20 laps, but VanderBeek would slip under him on the final lap coming off of turn four with the two bumping each other to the checkered flag. Schmitt would edge out VanderBeek at the line to claim the $2,000 top prize. Matt Greiner was third, Jason Cook finished in fourth, with Mike Van Genderen rounding out the top five. Last chance races went to Greg Gill and Brandon Rothzen.

Brian Harris and Jeremy Payne drew the front row for the 25-lap Keith's Foods Late Model feature, with Harris taking the lead on the drop of the green flag. Harris, who ran the bottom of the speedway, and Payne, who was up on top, put on a show for the crowd, as the two battled side-by-side for several laps. Payne would grab the lead on lap 17 with Harris coming back on the bottom to lead lap 19, but Payne would grab the top spot back on the next lap. Payne then held off Harris on the final 6 laps to pick up the $3,000 paycheck. Terry Phillips came from tenth to finish in third, Tommy Elston was fourth, with Chris Smyser coming home in fifth. Phillips, Elston, Rickey Frankel and Payne each picked up a heat race win, while Jason Bodenhammer picked up the semi win.

Up next was the 18-lap Advance Trading USRA B-Modified feature, with Jack Evans Jr. and Tony Dunker leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Evans would take advantage of his front row starting spot to grab the lead on lap 1 and then held it until lap 13, when Jeff Waterman, who started seventh, jumped to his outside to take over the lead. Waterman then pulled away on the final 5 lap to pick up the $1,000 top prize, his biggest win of his career to-date. Evans settled for second, Ryan Giles charged from nineteenth to finish in third, Wyatt Lantz was fourth, with Bob Woodrow rounding out the top five. Last chance races went to Tony Garner, Terry Houston and Dustin Boling, with Jacob Murray picking up the last last chance win.

The final feature of the evening was the 40-lap Bentz GM Country USRA Modifieds, with Kelly Shryock and Darin Duffy on the front row. Shryock would grab the lead on lap 1 and then held it until lap 5, when Terry Phillips slid under him for the top spot. Phillips had worked up a straight-away lead over Shryock and Mark Burgtorf, when that was narrowed to a bumper on lap 30, as they entered lapped traffic. Shryock would try a last lap pass of Phillps and slid high, allowing Burgtorf to get by for second, as Phillips went on to score the $5,000 win in a caution-free event. Zack VanderBeek would come home in fourth, with Michael Long coming home in fifth. Tony Fraise, Mike Wedelstadt and Ryan Meyer picked up the last chance races, while Darin Thye picked up the last last chance win.

Coming up next at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway will be the final event of the 2006 season. This will also be the season-ending chase for "The Hunt" for the O'Reilly United States Modified Touring Series on Friday and Saturday, Nov. 3-4. Also in action will be the USRA Stock Cars, Advance Trading USRA B-Modifieds, USRA Hobby Stocks, Outlaw Hobbies and Hornets.
