Route 66 Motor Speedway practice, Amarillo Area Motorsports Hall of Fame induction March 31


The Route 66 Motor Speedway will host an open practice this Saturday, March 31, with a start time of 12 p.m. and ending at 3 p.m. Gates will open at 11 a.m.

On Saturday night, the Amarillo Area Motorsports Hall of Fame and Museum will be honoring 18 individuals who have made significant contributions to motorsports in the Amarillo area.

The night will begin with the doors of the Amarillo Civic Center Heritage room opening at 5 p.m. for social gathering including a great collection of iconic vintage car and motorcycle displays, cocktails, unique silent auction collection and a full dinner starting at 6, followed by award presentations and induction of each individual into the Amarillo Area Motorsports Hall of Fame class of 2018.

The following individuals will be honored at this year’s event: Bill Brown, Roland Brunson, Myrle Davis, Herb Edwards, Edd Funderburk, Bud Gossett, Eugene Hair, Norman “Banty” Herring, Don “Red” Nevins, Tom Pace, Don Palmer, Don Parker, Gary Pelfery, Doug “Pokey” Smith, Billy Joe Smith, Gary Taylor, R.D. Thomas and Tuggie Tuckness.

The annual fundraising event is an opportunity for the community, supporters and friends with interest in motorsports to come together, honor the inductees as well as support the local non-profit organization’s mission of not only honoring these individuals but building of a museum to further educate and display the history of motorsports in the Amarillo area.

Tickets can also be purchased at the door for $30.
