Fito Gallardo won the USRA Modified main event on Saturday, May 19, at the Southern New Mexico Speedway in Las Cruces, N.M.

Military and public safety personal packed the stands on Military & Public Safety Night on a beautiful May 19 edition of the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series at the Southern New Mexico Speedway.

Twenty-nine USRA Modifieds checked in and were joined by twelve Holley USRA Stock Cars.

Lloyd Turner made some adjustments to his '57 Chevy in the Holley USRA Stock Cars and led 98% of the show. Turner was gone with only Mark Morris giving him some competition to worry about. Morris tapped Turner on lap five coming down the main straight-away, but both drivers kept it straight.

Morris had the bottom to his favor, but Turner had the top figured out perfectly. Both drivers put on a side-by-side clinic, passing one another for the lead the entire way until Donavon Flores showed up crash the party.

With three laps to go, Flores handled Morris and then on the final lap led the only lap that Turner didn't.

After one USRA Modified "B" Main, the 24-car field for the "A" Main was established with Todd Harper leading the show. Harper led early with good battles behind, but went for a spin off of turn four on lap eight with Fito Gallardo taking the lead.

Eight cautions flew until a long ten-lap green flag finish to the end. Bumper Jones battled hard for second with Jimmy Ray until Royal Jones had a good run taking away third from Bumper. The father-son battle ended up with Royal in third. Ray took second as he couldn't reel in Gallardo for the win.
