Dycus dominates Devil's Bowl

With 30 USRA Modifieds rolling into the famed half-mile Devil’s Bowl Speedway, the Touring Outlaw Modified Series were led by their two-time series champion Triston Dycus.

At the drop of the green flag for the evening's events, Dycus was the man to beat. After starting fourth in his heat, moving up to second on the first lap, and then battling Danny Veal, Dycus took over the top spot as Veal pushed up the track slightly in turn three on the seventh lap of the eight-lap heat race, allowing Dycus to squeeze by to take the race win.

Other heat race performances were from Wendall Bolen, Troy Taylor and Donnie Shipp, which lock them into the top-eight redraw. Day Motor Sports "B" Mains were won by Mike Dillard and Jasen Hammond.

To start the 20-lap Summit Racing Equipment "A" Main, 21 cars took to the racing surface led by Bolden to take the green flag and jumping out to a five-car-length advantage after the first lap. Dycus started the race in the eighth spot, as the field of cars completing lap one was on the bottom of the track driving forward. Bolden was still stretching his lead on the field after two laps, riding the high side cushion. Meanwhile, Dycus was making the low side the fast way, taking the fourth spot at the completion of lap two.

Dycus squeezed by Taylor for second on lap fur and set his sights chasing down Bolden. By lap seven, Dycus had reeled in the high-flying Bolden. With a drive on the bottom going into turn one, Dycus drove up past Bolden to take over the lead at lap nine.

Lap eleven brought out the race's only caution and stacking up the field. Dycus led the field for the final laps to the checkered flags followed by Bolden, Taylor, Skip O’Neal and Clyde Dunn Jr. to capture his first TOMS feature of the season.

With another exciting race for the season under our belts, the next TOMS race will be Sunday, May 27, at the Superbowl Speedway in Greenville, Texas, for the David Pope Memorial Race.
