A beautiful May 31 evening in Sioux Center, Iowa, was the stage for the Ver Hoef Automotive Summer Celebration Spectacular featuring the Iron Man Challenge at the half-mile Sioux Speedway.

First to hit the track for their main event were the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods presented by Pace Performance. Dave Kennedy and past Sioux Speedway Modified champion John Klynsma paced the field to the green, but it did not take long for USRA hotshoe Dan Hovden to make his way to the front.

The Decorah racer piloted his No. 16 machine to the lead for the better part of the event and took home his first Sioux Speedway win.

Brandon, S.D.’s Dustin Kruse also moved from the third row to finish in the runner-up spot while Klynsma, from nearby Hospers, was third. Cody Olsen traveled from Omaha, Neb., to take the fourth spot and Carl Brewer from Vermillion, S.D., was fifth.

Dan Hovden won the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature.

The finale of the evening saw 22 Holley USRA Stock Cars presented by Medieval Chassis hit the track for 20 laps of door-to-door action.

This season, Elijah Zevenbergen has had his share of bad luck, but placing in the top eight in passing points after the heat races allowed him to draw the front row for the main event.

That turned out to be good news for him and bad news for the competition as the Ocheyedan racer put the No. 66Z out front and never looked back in taking his seventh career victory at Sioux Speedway.

Decorah’s Kyle Falk moved his car from the eighth starting spot up to second at the checkered with Chad Overgaard from Luverne, Minn., finishing up in third.

Another pair of long-haul drivers from Decorah and Calmar, respectively, finished fourth and fifth with Dillon Anderson beating out Lynn Panos.

Thanks to all that came out to Sioux Speedway for the Ver Hoef Automotive Summer Celebration Spectacular event.
