With eighty entries in three classes, officials at the Rapid Speedway raced to beat the rain Friday night but came up one race short of winning. Lyndon Johnson and Blake Arends, however, got the job done.

The second of three consecutive nights of Iron Man Challenge action, Out-Pace USRA B-Mods and Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks were able to complete their feature events, but Mother Nature stepped in to thwart the nightcap for the Holley USRA Stock Cars.

Arends, of Little Rock, Iowa, who started fifth, held off four-time defending Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock national champion Dustin Gulbrandson for the victory while Tyler Pospisil, Alex Wiertzma and Dylan VandenTop, who started 17th, rounded out the top five.

In the main event for the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods presented by Pace Performance, Lyndon Johnson of Montrose, S.D., stopped Dan Hovden’s winning streak at two with his second career Iron Man Challenge victory.

Hovden claimed the runner-up spot by fending off polesitter Cody Olsen, while Ben Moudry and Thor Anderson grabbed the other top-five finishing spots. Eleventh-starting Dustin Kruse, Colter Deutsch, Dave Kennedy, 15th-stating Tyler Johnson and Andrew Ahlers rounded out the top ten.

Colby Klaassen of Little Rock and Middleburg’s Justin Regnerus were slated to pace the front row of the feature race for the Holley USRA Stock Cars presented by Medieval Chassis, but the race was suspended due to weather. A make-up date has not been determined.

On Saturday, the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn., will host the tripleheader finale with Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks, USRA Tuners and Sportsmans rounding out the night’s featured classes.

The pits will open at 4 p.m. and grandstands open at 5 with the drivers meeting at 6:45 and hot laps getting underway at 7 p.m. with racing to follow. Grandstand tickets are $11 for ages 17 and over, $7 for ages 13-16, and kids 12 and under are free. Pit passes are $30.

The Nobles County Speedway is located at 1600 Stower Dr. in Worthington, Minn.
