Super-fast racing was in session Saturday for the School’s Out Super Summer Spectacular presented by Casey’s General Stores at the Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive.

In the USRA Modified main event, J.D. Auringer of Evansdale took home the $500 top prize with Webster City wheelman Mark Elliott backing up last week’s win with a runner-up paycheck. Ankeny’s Ben Nading claimed the third spot, while Iowa Falls drivers Chase Ellingson and Devon Havlik were fourth and fifth, respectively.

Defending Iron Man Challenge titlist Derek Green of Granada, Minn., rolled from his outside third row starting spot and rolled out of the speedway with the $400 winner’s check in the Holley USRA Stock Cars. Steve Jackson of Polk City took second, followed by Jesse Brown of Nashua, Marshalltown legend Rick Gustin and Webster City’s Todd Staley from 17th on the grid.

Derek Green won the Holley USRA Stock Car feature.

Norway’s Tim Plummer led from start to finish to collect the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod main event with Alex Zwanziger of Nashua holding off 12th-starting Ty Griffith of Webster City for second. Doug McCollough and Rocky Caudle rounded out the top five.

The Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks saw Chanse Hollatz of Clear Lake hold off last week’s Allstar Performance Allstar of the Week, Eric Stanton of Carlisle. Polesitter Matt Smith of Des Moines wound up third, Derek Willert of Marble Rock was fourth and Britt’s Tony Smidt took home fifth-place money.

Chanse Hollatz won the Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stock feature.

Matt Oberhelman of Fort Dodge saw the checkered flag first in the USRA Tuner main event. Ryan Bryant of Mason City, Justin Nielson of Luverne, John Dahlsten of Pomeroy and Garner’s Sam Umbarger completed the top five.

Matt Oberhelman won the USRA Tuner feature.

Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action continues next Saturday, June 16, for Battle of the Badges where local police officers will be in high-speed pursuit as they read each other their rights and battle on the historical half-mile of dirt. Malvern Bank Super Late Models, USRA Modifieds, Holley USRA Stock Cars, Out-Pace USRA B-Mods, Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks and USRA Tuners are on the six-division card.

Gates open at 5 p.m., the drivers meeting is called to order at 6:50 and hot laps begin at 7:10 with racing to follow the National Anthem. Tickets are $12 for adults, $8 for juniors ages 12-16 and kids 11 and under are free. Fans can also purchase a Family Pack for two adults and two juniors for $32 (save $8). Pit passes are $30, youth ages 6-10 are $20 and kids 5 and under are free.

Opening in July 1910, the Hamilton County Speedway is the oldest speedway in the state of Iowa. In 1938, work began on the current location at the Hamilton County Fairgrounds. The semi-banked half-mile dirt track was completed in the spring of 1939, and the first races were held on the track in September of that year.

The Hamilton County Speedway driven by Spangler Automotive is located off of US 20 at exit 140, then 1.2 miles north, then 0.5 mile east on Bank St., then 0.4 mile south on Bluff St. in Webster City, Iowa (1200 Bluff St, Webster City, IA 50595).
