Sathoff nets fifth Nobles County Speedway Holley USRA Stock Car win

Defending Nobles County Speedway champion Luke Sathoff is dominating the Holley USRA Stock Car division. That’s not to say that the racing hasn’t been close. It’s been outstanding. However, Sathoff’s five wins in eight starts says a lot as to how hard it’s been to keep him away from victory lane.

Saturday, Sathoff started dead last after failinbg to finish his heat race. In the feature, polesitter Jon DeBoer was unstoppable while the positions behind him changed more often than a politician on the take! While running fourth, Sathoff managed a two car pass of Levi Feltman and Rich Gregoire. Sathoff still trailed DeBoer by a half straightaway when a late caution rewrote the final chapter.

Sathoff was able to take what little room DeBoer gave him on the inside to pass the leader and claim his fifth win of the season. DeBoer and Gregoire settled for second and third.

With the win, Sathoff holds a 79-point lead over Feltman in the points standings.

Justin Luinenburg is also finding victory lane with frequency in the Out-Pace USRA B-Mods. Luinenburg came into the night just five points behind Dave Kennedy atop the standings. Mechanical problems forced Kennedy to DNF in the feature. Luinenburg outdistanced Dan Ross and Curt Ahlers to the finish line for his third B-Mod win at NCS on Pepsi Night.

The win swung the points to Luinenburg’s favor as he now sits 23 points over Kennedy.

In between cautions, the Cook Racing Supplies USRA Hobby Stocks were a thrill. Tyler Schumbohm wrestled the front away from Dustin Gulbrandson. Even with several restarts, Schlumbohm was at the head of the class, though Gulbrandson and Dan Strandberg made it an exciting ride. Gulbrandson, the current points leader, and Strandberg, the defending track champion, were practically glued together as they raced side-by-side for most of the feature—both making attempts at the lead.

When the dust settled Schlumbohm had his first win and Strandberg edged Gulbrandson for second. Nick Brady and Justin Luinenburg were fourth and fifth.

Kent Miller was the apparent winner of the USRA Tuners feature. However, disqualifications to three drivers, including Miller, for tech issues handed the win to Josh Stanley of Paulina, Iowa. It’s his first win in the division.

Meanwhile, just a week after taking over the points lead, defending champion Scott Espey has rocketed to a 113-point lead over Dan Jensen.

The Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series continues next Saturday, July 28. Hot laps begin at 7 p.m. and racing follows. Keep up to date on results, points and more by going to www.noblescountyspeedway.com or by checking NCS’s Facebook page.
