Dalton drives to Out-Pace USRA B-Mod win at Springfield

Track champion Jackie Dalton of Carthage took advantage of the redraw in leading all 20 laps of the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature Saturday night at the Springfield Raceway on the race card presented by Green Lawn Funeral Homes.

High point driver for the evening and third heat winner Aaron Scroggins pulled the No. 8 out of the box inverting the top 8 passing points cars from qualifying. This placed Dalton on the pole with Jace Parmley to his outside.

Former Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national champion J.C. Morton had issues in qualifying and started on the grid tenth but was wasting no time in making a charge to the front. Dalton took the opening spot with Parmley in tow while Michael Cawvey was holing a solid third early in the tight pack while Austin Joplin was mixing it up with the top runners.

With two- and three-wide racing all over, Dalton was attempting to distance himself from Parmley who was enjoying his best run of the season as Scroggins and James Thompson, who both started in the fourth row, were door to door and looking for more.

The heat really got turned up on lap 12 as Morton cracked the top five and was in a hard fought battle with Cawvey as season points runner-up Justin Comer was overcoming a bad qualifying effort from his 14th starting spot.

Dalton put about five cars between himself and Parmley as the action hot spot was for third spot with Cawvey and Morton. On lap 18, Cawvey went around in turn 1 in the fast-paced action as Comer had nowhere to go as both drivers were knocked out of action and the feature was red-flagged to clean up the track.

Dalton found Morton on his bumper for the restart as Morton picked the high groove. With a green-white-checkered finish, Dalton was riding the middle lane as the leaders took the white flag and Morton was looking for more ground as the yellow waved for a crash in turn 4, declaring the racve over.

Dalton was followed by Morton, youngster Kaden Miller, Joplin and Scroggins.

The Out-Pace USRA B-Mods presented by Reliable Chevrolet will be back in action with a twin bill Sept. 28-2 helping in the Tribute to Ozarks Racing Legends. Each night is scheduled as a complete show with Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points being awarded.
