A solid field of 27 USRA Modifieds signed in for Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action at the Southern New Mexico Speedway on Saturday, with Philip Houston grabbing the initial lead in the main event.

Houston ran up top for the better part of the race, but soon found himself run down and surrounded by Fito and Jake Gallardo. Jake Gallardo took the lead with Fito Gallardo following into second while defending track champion Bumper Jones was edging his way to the front.

After getting by Houston, Jones used lapped traffic to sneak by the elder Gallardo and set his sights on leader Jake Gallardo. Jake Gallardo made contact with a back-marker and was forced to the rear of the field due to the contact.

Fito Gallardo gave Jones a run for his money but was denied a line where he could get around the leader and finished second with Houston in third, Jimmy Ray quietly sneaking his way to a fourth-place finish and Robert Adams rounding out the top five.

The Holley USRA Stock Cars saw three-time Out-Pace USRA B-Mod feature winner, Nathan Smith, start up front in the full-fendered division.

Smooth driving and hitting his marks perfectly in the corners kept him running out front but a late-race yellow gave his father, Jed Smith, a shot at the leader. However, the elder Smith was forced out of the race and Donavon Flores moved to second but ran out of laps to catch Nathan Smith.

Wyatt Loveland settled for a third-place finish, Jason Josselyn came in fourth and Paul Telles Jr. rounded out the top five.

Three nights of action are on tap next week with an Enduro on Thursday followed by Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action with USRA Modifieds on Friday and Out-Pace USRA B-Mods on Saturday. Holley USRA Stock Cars will be in action both nights as we the Southern New Mexico Speedway closes out the last regular season. Gates open at 5 p.m. with racing at 7:45 all three nights.
