Petty warms up with Lebanon Midway Speedway Survivor Series win

Reigning track champion and current Fall Survivor Series points leader Sam Petty shot from his outside front row starting spot and held back a surge from 2017 track champion Tyler Brown in the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod main event Saturday night at the Lebanon Midway Speedway.

With a heads-up start, heat race winners Tyler Knudtson and Petty brought the field to the track only to see Knudtson pull in just before action got underway. On the start, Petty, enjoying his best season in his career, got the opening shot on Dayton Pursley with Tyler Brown who was nursing sore ribs from some racing activities last weekend following in third spot.

With the 15-lap feature caution-free, Brown began his surge to close in on Petty as Pursley was locked into a solid third place while Bill Schaar was making some nice moves after starting the feature in the 11th spot.

The battle up front saw Petty fend back the attempts of Brown as this duo brought back last season's Bud Perry Memorial event. The race for third got tighter between two rookies and second- and third-generation drivers as Dayton Newell closed in on Pursley while Schaar had cracked the top 5 by lap 6 and was on a mission as the smooth black surface really kept action tight.

When the checkered flew it was Petty securing the win in his Shaw/ Mac's Performance/Moore Logging No. 9 while Brown took the McDaniel/Premiere Auto Body No. T10 to a solid runner up spot as Pursley, Newell and Schaar completed the top 5.

Lebanon Midway Speedway will be in action with the two-day Bud Perry Memorial on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 26-27. Friday night action features the Out-Pace USRA B-Mod racing for Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points with a full racing program and regular payout. The top 6 finishers from Friday night lock into the first three rows of the $500-to-win, $75-to-start feature presented by S&S U-Pull-It Auto Parts on Saturday night.

On Saturday night the high-horsepower USRA Modifieds will compete in a $700-to-win, $100-to-start feature with Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series national points awarded.

Friday night race time is 7:30 p.m. with Saturday night action starting at 6:30.
