Waits wins again at Chateau Raceway

LANSING, Minn. - Perfect weather greeted fans and drivers for Friday Nights racing action at Chateau Raceway, powered by Husqvarna, in Lansing. A little rain during the past week combined with slightly cooler weather combined to make for perfect track conditions and the fast lap times and exciting two and three wide racing that fans have been accustomed to seeing this season continued. The track started out the night noting the loss of two members of the tracks long history. Johnny Fodness formerly of Austin who raced at the track in the late 50's into the 60's passed away on July 11th. He was a seven time feature winner at the track and also finished in the top five in points three times in 1961, 1962 and 1963 in the Stock Class, he was 79. The track also lost one of its former promoters, Clayton Dornack of Rochester who promoted the track between 1979 and 1983. He passed away on July 12th at the age of 80.

The Noble RV USRA Modified feature was slowed by eight cautions and eventually had five laps cut. After three attempts to start the race ended in cautions the field was stretched out single file for the fourth attempt. Brad Waits of Zumbrota fell in line fifth and took just two laps to move to the front. Larry Nelson of Hartland lead the first lap with Waits closing up to second immediatly.

Waits went by Nelson on lap two and never looked back as he ran off to a big lead through the middle part of the race before the late cautions slowed things down again. Josh Mattick of Austin worked his way to second and held on to the spot ahead of Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie. Waits also scored a heat win on the night giving him his second sweep of the season as he scored his fourth feature win of the year.

The night's other heat win went to Mark Wytaske of Austin who saw victory lane for the first time this season. Mark was doing a nice job of backing up that effort in the feature when he got caught up in somebody elses problems. Wytaske was running third when a car spun in front of him. He did a nice job of avoiding the car spinning ahead of him but other cars joined in the spin taking out his front end and sending him to the pits on the end of the wrecker.

This week's racing program was sponsored by Ron's Repair of Owatonna with the weekly Kids promotion being "Sweet Treat Night". All the youngsters in attendance received coupon good for sweet treats from the concession stand. Next weeks Kids Friendly Promotion will include more Bicycle giveaways.
