Lantz extends winning streak to five on Ed Sheckler Memorial Night at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway

MEMPHIS, Mo. - Pepsi presented the Ed Sheckler Memorial at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway. Tom Schmitt (USRA Stock Cars), Wyatt Lantz (USRA B-Mods), Bill Gibson (USRA Hobby Stocks) and Jake Wenig (Outlaw Hobbys) topped the features in there respective divisions.

The first feature of the night of the 12-lap USRA Hobby Stocks, with Mike Shelton and Dustin Griffiths drawing the front row for the event. Shelton jumped out front on the drop of the green flag and then held it until lap 8, when Bill Gibson slipped under him for the top spot. Gibson then held off Shelton over the final four laps to claim his sixth win of the season at Memphis. Jim Tull finished in third, Derek Kirkland was fourth, with Steve Allen coming home in fifth. Gibson made a sweep of the night by claiming the heat race win.

Up next was the 15-lap USRA Stock Car feature, with Butch Bailey and David Wietholder leading the field to the drop of the green flag. But is was fourth place starter Tom Schmitt, making his first appearance of the 2007 at the speedway, grabbing the lead on lap 1. Schmitt would go on to lead all 15 laps to pick up his first win of the season at the track. Colt Mather came from sixth to finish in second, Zack VanderBeek charged from tenth to finish in third, Matt Greiner came from ninth to finish in fourth, with Troy Alexander rounding out the top five. Heat race winners were VanderBeek and Mather.

The most exciting feature of the night was the 15-lap Outlaw Hobby feature, with two and three wide racing going on for all 15 laps. Derek St. Clair and Rob Wilsey drew the front row, with Wilsey jumping out front on lap 1. Wilsey and St. Clair got together in turn three on lap 2, spinning Wilsey and sending both to the rear. Jim Lynch would inherit the lead on the restart, with Jake Wenig, who started twelfth, close behind him in second. Wenig would jump to the outside of Lynch to grab the top spot on lap 4, but Lynch came back on lap 6 to get the lead back. Wenig, who was running the top of the speedway, edged out front to lead lap 7, with Lynch, who was running the bottom, coming back to lead lap 8. Lynch would hold the top spot until lap 12, when Wenig worked under him for the lead. Wenig then held off Lynch on the final 3 laps to claim his first win of the season at the speedway. Rodger Dresden was third, Jeff Soper was fourth, with Brandon Symmonds coming from tenth to round out the top five. Heat race winners were Symmonds and Beau Taylor.

Brian Clark and Porter Collins led the field to the drop of the green flag in the 15-lap USRA B-Mod feature, with Collins grabbing the lead on lap 1. Collins then held the top spot until lap 3, when Brandon Savage slipped under him for the lead. Savage only led one lap, as Jim Gillenwater got by on lap 4 for the top spot. Wyatt Lantz, who started tenth, worked his way up to grab the lead on lap 6 and then pulled away to grab his fifth consecutive feature win at the track. Savage held on to second, Joe Hooper was third, Jason Riegel was fourth, with Gillenwater coming home in fifth. Gillenwater and Lantz took home the heat race wins.

Coming up next week at the Pepsi Scotland County Speedway will be another USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series Night, with extra money up for grabs in all USRA classes. The USRA Modifieds will be going for a top prize of $1,200, while the USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Modifieds, USRA Hobby Stocks and Outlaw Hobby Stocks all going for $400 to win. Plus the Hornets will race for $100 to win (with 11 or more cars) along with Pro Hornets going for $100 to win.

The pits opens at 4:30 p.m., grandstand at 5:00 p.m., with hot laps at 6:30 p.m. and racing at 7:00 p.m. Admission next week will be Adults - General Admission $9.00, Juniors (12-18) & Seniors (62+) $7.00, Kids 11 & Under FREE, with Pit Pass $20.
