Gillmore finally tames Lebanon

Former Out-Pace USRA B-Mod National Champion Ryan Gillmore of Springfield was having a bad Friday until he took the green flag Friday night in Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series action at the Lebanon Midway Speedway and finally grabbed a checkered flag in the U-Pull-It Auto parts feature for his first B-Mod win at the track.

Gillmore had made plans to head to the Tri-State Speedway in Pocola, Okla., but had to work late and decided to make a trip to Lebanon. To make matters worse, a tire on his trailer blew out about three miles from the track and they eased into the facility with the tire on cords.

"I already had the car on the trailer and at work, but had to work late, well let's go racing," Gillmore said. Afterall, the track is having a $5,600-to-win big special in September and see if we can turn our luck around."

Just in time for practice, Gillmore made adjustments to the track that has always bit him in B-Mod action in the past, won his heat race, but saw the redraw place him sixth on the starting grid, swung to the top side and took the lead from Brian Myers on the sixth lap and made it look easy after that. It was his first B-Mod win, and second of his career at the track.

"This track has always left me shaking my head. Last season they held a special USRA Modified event, and we won. The track was awesome, it looked good before the feature and they did just a little farming to it, rolled it in and talk about fun... I had never been able to run the top groove here before but that changed, and with the race caution-free I got into a good rhythm and made up some ground fairly quick."

Myers shot to the lead from his pole spot at the green as Kelly Hicks, Tyler Knudtson and Gillmore went three-wide for the spot on lap 2. Gillmore took the spot with Knudtson following as points leader and last week's winner Dillion McCowan followed in tow while Donnie Jackson, who was having issues in the heat race, was making up ground from the eighth starting spot.

Out in front, Gillmore put it in cruise control and played with some different lanes on the track as Knudtson, McCowan, Myers and Jackson completed the top 5.

Qualifying heats went to McCowan and Gillmore.

Action continues next Friday, July 5, at 8 p.m. with the Summit USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring Out-Pace USRA B-Mods. The Malvern Bank Cash Money Late Models are also in town for the Gary Woodall Memorial with a fireworks show anbd points races for the Pure Stocks, Midwest Modifieds, Street Stocks and Hornets too. Grandstand admission will be $20 with kids 12 and under free. Pit Passes will be $35.

The Lebanon Midway Speedway is a semi-banked1/3-mile dirt oval located 5 miles east of Lebanon on Highway B. For more information, visit the Facebook page or website at MidwaySpeedway.net.
