Springfield Raceway sanctions Modifieds with USRA, ready for action-packed 2009 season

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. - The Springfield Raceway has announced an action-packed 2009 schedule with 26 dates lined-up for the quick quarter-mile dirt oval in Springfield, Mo.

Promoter Jerry Hoffman has announced that the track will sanction their Modified division with the United States Racing Association in 2009. The addition of Springfield to the USRA family of racetracks gives Modified drivers in Southwest Missouri a three-night weekend swing to compete for the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series National Championship.

A play day is slated for Saturday afternoon, March 28, with the track open for practice from 1-6 p.m. Pit passes for the test 'n' tune session will be $20 per person, with free admission to the grandstands and concessions available for "early bird" fans.

In addition to USRA Modifieds, the regular points shows will include Late Models, SportMods, Bombers and Legends Cars.

Opening night will be Saturday, April 18, with action set to start at 6 p.m. with hot laps at 5:15.

The April dates will find a 6 p.m. starting time to help with the springtime temperatures.

Saturday, April 25, will be a regular points show while the first round of spectator drags will be included. All Springfield firefighters, EMT and law enforcement personnel will be admitted free with proper ID.

Saturday, May 2, will see racing action start at the normal 7 p.m. starting time while the fast-moving regular points show will also include the BadBoy Lawnmower races to help highlight the evening.

Saturday, May 9, will not only find Pepsi Night but also Kids Night as kids 6 through 12 years of age will only be charged $2 admission. Kids' bike races will also be staged at intermission.

The first special event of the season will take place on Saturday, May 16, as the bad-fast USMTS Modifieds battle the toughest USRA Modifieds in the Show-Me State. Points races are also on tap for SportMods, Bombers and Legends Cars.

On Saturday, May 23, the Fastest Sheriff event will highlight the regular points action, while May 30 will be round 2 of the spectator drags and the regular points action rolls on along with Honoring the Past and Present Military as they will be admitted free of charge.

Saturday, June 6 and 13, are regular point shows, along with special things such as a Bomber Special and Shriner's Night.

Sprint Car fans will be in full attendance on Saturday, June 20, as the ASCS Sooner Series takes to the Springfield Raceway, along with Pro 4s, Bombers and Sport Mods as support classes.

Open Late Model fans get to see the O'Reilly MARS Late Model Series on July 11 as the track honors the memory of Andy's Frozen Custard icon John Kuntz.

The USMTS Modifieds returns as part of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey's General Stores National Championship on Thursday, Aug. 13, followed by a regular weekly points show on Saturday, Aug. 15.

It's a double-dose for Late Model fans as Sept. 19 will see the stars and cars of the O'Reilly MARS Late Model Series return for the Larry Phillips Memorial, while the Show-Me Racin' Series featuring NASCAR's Kenny Wallace battle on Thursday night, Oct. 1.
