Deery Brothers Summer Series rescheduled for Aug. 25 at Cresco

CRESCO, Iowa — The Deery Brothers Summer Series ends a lengthy absence from the Mighty Howard County Fairgrounds on Tuesday, Aug. 25, as Subway hosts the IMCA Late Model tour for their first event at the Cresco Speedway since 1996.

The event was originally slated for June 11 but was rained-out.

Three previous Deery Series events have been held at Cresco. Jay Johnson of West Burlington won the first, in 1988, while Gary Webb of Blue Grass topped 1995 and 1996 races.

An average of 48 Late Models have been in the pits through the first five events of 2009 in the 23rd annual series. Mark Burgtorf of Quincy, Ill., has won two of those features, while fellow Quincy resident Jason Frankel, Tommy Elston of Keokuk and Josh Most of Red Oak have each won once.

The feature pay $2,000 to win and a minimum of $250 to start.

Also on the racing card will be the USRA Modifieds, USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars, USRA Karl Chevrolet B-Mods and USRA Hobby Stocks racing for track and national points in the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series.

Pit gates open at 4 p.m. and the grandstand opens at 5 p.m. at Cresco. Hot laps are at 6:30 p.m. and racing starts at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $15 for adults, $5 for kids 6-12 and five and under get in free. Pit passes are $25.

Drivers expected for this event include points leader Jeff Aikey, Ray Guss Jr., Jason Frankel, defending series champion Boone McLaughlin, Tom Darbyshire, Terry Neal, Jay Johnson, Rob Toland, Bryan Klein, Justin Kay, Matt Strassheim, Mark Burgtorf, T.J. Criss, Darrel DeFrance, Charlie McKenna, Tommy Elston, Joe Zrostlik, Terry Schlipman, Robby Warner, Greg Kastli and more.

The Cresco Speedway is a 4/10-mile semi-banked clay oval located 0.2 miles north of SR 9 on SW 7th (at the Howard County Fairgrounds).
