OSKALOOSA, IA (Sept. 16, 2000) — Nine new cars checked into the pit area during the final night of the 13th Annual Fall Challenge at The Southern Iowa Speedway in Oskaloosa which brought the two-day total to 201 cars in the three classes of racing.

Scott Buehneman of Keswick started on the pole position of the Hobby Stock feature and went to the lead at the drop of the green racing on the bottom of the track while Kris Walker of Oskaloosa made his way into second place by driving the high line around the half-mile. The two raced side-by-side and wheel-to-wheel the entire 16-lap event with no more than a car length separating the two. Walker led the second lap while Buehneman edged him across the line on the third lap. Walker then got ahead as they crossed the start/finish line by a couple of feet on the fourth and fifth lap but Buehneman assumed the lead the next time by. Buehneman never relinquished the lead the final ten laps to claim the $750 top prize. Walker finished in second to Buehneman with Brandon Hess of Oskaloosa making a last lap charge to pass two cars and make his way into third place and Brad Stephens of Bussey finished in the fourth place position.

Mark Elliott of Webster City started on the outside of the front row of the Stock Car feature and went to the lead on the first lap of the event. Elliott gradually pulled away from the field the entire caution-free 20-lap event and cruised to the victory by a straight-away over Brad Pinkerton of New Sharon. Pinkerton, Bobby Greiner Jr. of Ottumwa, Jim Brown of Fremont and Mickey Kerr of Fairfield diced it out for second and third place for ten laps before Pinkerton got into second place for good. Greiner finished in third place with Brown in fourth and Kerr in fifth.

Tim Folkerts of Albia started on the outside of the front row of the Modified feature and made his way into the lead coming out of the fourth turn on the first lap. Folkerts then gradually built a half-a-straight-away lead the next nine laps when John VanDenberg of Oskaloosa got into the second place position and began his charge to the leader. VanDenberg cut into Folkerts’ lead each lap as the crowd became anxious for a race-lead battle. The battle took shape on the last lap with Folkerts coming away as the winner and taking home the $2000 top prize. VanDenberg finished a close second to Folkerts with Rick Gustin of Marshalltown in third and David Boyd of Conesville in fourth.
