Southern Iowa Speedway officials begin work for 2003

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Dec. 5, 2002) - Work is already underway for racing action in 2003. The highly talked about Non-wing 305 Sprint Car class will become a reality on Memorial Day in 2003 and will run approximately 18 shows. Rules are posted on the SIS web site for those competitors needing information. The most notable change will be the absence of the big flotation tires inside the turns. Track official have nearly completed the construction of a 3' high dirt burm on the inside on the speedway. Director of Competition Tony Bokhoven said, "When we looked back at what was causing most of our yellow flags, it was those tires. We wanted to get rid of them last year but it just didn't work out. But now they are gone!" The Southern Iowa Fair Board did a great job of building the burm. We hope to eliminate guys knocking the front ends off of their cars."

After the first of the year, there will be a drivers competition rules meeting. "I don't expect a lot to change as far as track rules are concerned. There are a few issues we are going to address, but nothing major." said Bokhoven. The southern Iowa Speedway will again sanction its weekly competition under the IMCA banner. "We feel IMCA is doing a good job of governing these classes and we are happy with the changes they have made over the winter." said Bokhoven. Everyone is encouraged to watch the SIS web site for the date of the rules meeting.
