Dixon cashes in at I-35 Speedway with Mike Knight Memorial victory

Jeff Dixon won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

Jeff Dixon won the Medieval USRA Stock Car main event.

One hundred eleven cars checked in for the Nodaway Valley Bank Night and the Mike Knight Memorial at I-35 Speedway on Saturday. Mother Nature tried to put a damper on things, but with the help of the drivers, the I-35 Speedway crew would not be denied. The final checkered flag flew around 10:10 p.m.

One week after barrel-rolling his machine, USRA B-Mod points leader Tyler Cadwallader worked tirelessly through the week getting the car back together.

Cadwallader got past leader Michael Taylor III as the rear tire let go on the No. 6T machine and he had to hold off a hard-charging Corey Myers to pick up his sixth win of the season.

Myers' late charge on the last lap fell short as he finished second.

Clint Baker had his beat finish of the season finishing third, followed by returning driver Clay Hale in fourth and Jason Withrow with a good run in fifth.

The Mike Knight Memorial feature race saw the Medieval USRA Stock Cars with $800 going to the winner as well as bonus spots throughout the field.  The winner also received a seven-foot-tall trophy.

Tommy Ground took the lead from the drop of the green and held off numerous challenges from points leader Nic Hanes early on. Hanes, trying to fly around the top line, slipped over the burm in turns three and four and lost momentum toward the end of the race.

Jeff Dixon flexed his muscle with about three laps to go, slipping past Ground to pick up the win, the enormous trophy and an $800 payday.

Tim Eaton had a late surge fall short as he finished second. Kristchon Hisel had a good run in the final two laps moving from sixth to finish third. Tommy Ground held tough finishing fourth with Doug Keller in fifth.

Darren Shaw hasn't raced often this season but when he does, he is a threat to win each time he pulls in to the pits.

Shaw held off challenges from the father-son duo of Lee Hibner and points leader Tyler Hibner to pick up his second win of 2022.

Tyler Hibner slipped passed Lee late in the 20-lap event to finish second. Houston Johnson had a great battle finishing fourth and Tyler Grooms continued his best season to date finishing fifth.

Congratulations to John Penlend winning Fan of the Week sponsored by Hibner Racing, Keller Racing, Dixon Racing and Silkwood Family Racing.

Join us next Saturday night for Larry McFee night as we will have our Stinky Feet Race (shoes required) as well as the Show-Me Vintage Racers return to the famed I-35 Speedway.

The season continues to wind down as there's still plenty of points battles to make the run to October an exciting one at I-35 Speedway where you'll find dirt trackin' at it's best.
