Donlinger, Hare snare Deer Creek checkers

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. - Veteran racer LeRoy Scharkey jumped out front in the USRA RHS Modified feature event Saturday night at the Deer Creek Speedway. Tim Donlinger moved into second early on with Todd Scharkey in third.

Donlinger took over the top spot on lap 2 with two- and three-wide racing through the field while Todd Scharkey worked under his dad to take over the second spot as Ryan York worked into fifth behind Joe Horgdal.

With seven laps completed, A.J. Wiste worked low on Horgdal for fifth. After Wiste took the spot, Steve Wetzstein pressured him after working into the sixth spot. Wiste and Wetzstein raced side by side with 11 down as the first caution flew on lap 13.

On the restart, Donlinger led with York, Wetzstein and LeRoy Scharkey battling three wide for third. York held onto the spot with Wetzstein taking fourth. On the next lap, Wetzstein again pulled alongside of York for third with Josh Angst and Jason Cummins racing for fifth on their bumpers.

Another caution with 16 laps down bunched the field back up. Donlinger again led on the restart with Wetzstein, Cummins and Todd Scharkey three wide for second. Sharkey held the spot, leaving Wetzstein and Cummins to decide third. LeRoy Scharkey moved back around Angst to retake the fifth spot as the laps wound down.

Donlinger took home the win with Todd Scharkey, Cummins, Wetzstein and LeRoy Scharkey rounding out the top-5.

The USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods saw Parker Hale jump out front early on with Brandon Hare in second. On lap two, Hare took the lead with Ben Moudry moving into third. One lap later, Moudry moved into second allowing Jake Timm to race with Hale for third.

Josh Gesell worked into the top-5 and moved into fourth on lap 4 as he worked past Timm. On the next lap, Gesell moved past Hale for third while Colter Deutsch moved past Timm for fifth.

A caution with five laps down saw the field bunched back up. Hare led on the restart with Deutsch and Gesell racing for second. Gesell had the preferred line and held the second spot. Kylie Kath worked above Timm and Dan Tenold for the fourth spot.

On lap 12, Kath moved past Deutsch for third. Another caution on lap 13 saw Hare lead with Kath and Gesell side by side for second. A late caution saw the field mix up as Hare led, Gesell took second with Deutsch in third. Tenold and Kath rounded out the top-5 in the green-white-checkered dash to the finish.
