USRA National points leaders notch wins at Kasson

KASSON, Minn. - Mother Nature’s win streak stood at five consecutive weeks of rained out racing going into this week. The rain-outs finally ended at the Dodge County Speedway Sunday, but barely. She tried her hardest to prevail when a sunny sky suddenly turned to a heavy rain shower and dumped on the fairgrounds during the heat races.

After the shower abated, Mike and Jeremy Schubert, along with the help of Larry Kruckeberg, operated the heavy equipment to start the process of getting the track back in shape. It looked for a bit that Mother Nature may prevail, but the persistance paid off.

After the road grader made progress, drivers brought their racecars on to the surface and finished up the packing of the speedway. After an hour and a half delay, the program resumed around 8:30 p.m.

Then time became a factor as the “big” cars had to have their last feature started by 10 p.m. So to make that happen, the feature lengths were cut back a bit to ensure everyone would get to race.

Tonight's racing was sponsored by Schott Distributing of Rochester.

The USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods also ran a 12-lap feature. The rest of the drivers had to cringe when they saw Brandon Hare started in row one. The current national points leader dominated the race.

Hare led every lap in a race that went green to checkers without one yellow flag. It was Hare’s seventh win at Kasson and fourth in a row. Ben Moudry finished second, Jason Schlangen was third, Jeremy Schaufenbuel fourth and Josh Gessell fifth.

Track and current USRA national points leader Josh Angst dominated the USRA RHS Modified main event. Angst redrew the pole and drove away on the heavy, fast and tacky surface.

Angst survived a couple of yellow flags and was able to pull away from the pack for his third win of the season. Steve Wetzstein finished in second with Joel Alberts third. Jason Cummins and Darwin Karau finished in the top five.

This week the 153rd Dodge County Free Fair will feature the USMTS Modifieds along with Midwest Modifieds and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods on Wednesday, July 14.

Then on Sunday, July 18, the Fair will end with another full program of racing action with the American Racer USRA Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA RHS Modifieds and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods, plus all of the other regular classes on hand.
