Sorensen survives for Chateau Raceway checkers
by Matthew Grage
LANSING, Minn. - It was a hot steamy Friday night for racng action at Chateau Raceway powered by Miner's Outdoor Power & Rec. The racing was just as hot and at times appeared the drivers were getting a little hot as well showing a little frustration with each other at times. There were several extra bumps and finger pointing going on during cautions, plus a few drivers seemed to pull off the track apparently unhappy with calls and the physical racing.
The French's Repair & Fabrication USRA Modified feature was slowed by five cautions. On the first lap Steve Wetzstein of West Concord got a bit loose out of turn four in front of much of the field and he got tapped sending him the rest of the way around. He restarted tail end and two laps into the race was involved in another incident where he was tagged again as being at fault giving him two cautions, thus disqualifying him.
Not very pleased he went to the pits, meanwhile as the cars were being lined up several drivers were showing there frustration with each other already banging into each others bumpers. A lap after the next restart Brian Shaw of Brownsdale got roughed up and ended up sitting on the track. Under yellow he slowly made his way to the pits.
After yet another restart with the field working lap eight Mark Noble and Tommy Myer, both of Blooming Prairie were having a good battle for sixth when Myer went around on the back straightaway. After being told he would be going tail end Tommy pulled up along side Noble while the cars circled the track before falling back for the restart.
It was just another two laps after that restart that Noble was racing with Todd Scharkey of Kasson when the two of them tangled and slide up into the wall in turn three. Todd immediately went to the pits while Noble circled for a lap before he was told he was going tail end for the restart. He however ended up heading to his trailer as well.
Through all the yellows Mike Sorensen of Rochester stayed out front and lead flag to flag for his third feature win of the season. Josh Reisch of Luverne made a good run on him on one of the restarts getting along side of him but wasn't able to make the pass and ended up settling for second followed by Doug Hillson of Blooming Prairie. Tyler Clark of Rochester worked from row eight up to a fourth place finish followed by Josh Mattick of Austin. Sorensen also scored a heat win along with Myer and Hillson.
Racing action continues next Friday Night at Chateau Raceway with race time 7:30.
