USRA Modified Winter Meltdown now $20,000 to win

LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- The track that just can't seem to keep its purse from growing has done it again.

With the 16th annual USRA Modified Winter Meltdown only days away, Southern New Mexico Speedway co-owner and promoter Royal Jones decided to make a change.

The winning payout for the USRA RHS Modified main event finale on Sunday, Feb. 27, will now be $20,000 - up from the $6,000 to win previously advertised.

Friday and Saturday night will still pay the advertised $2,000 to win USRA RHS Modified feature race.

On top of the new $20,000-to-win curtain-closer, the Modified Triple Crown will also see a $10,000 boost to a staggering $30,000 to the driver who can win all three "A" Mains during this weekend's blockbuster event.

Catch the USRA Modified Winter Meltdown This Friday-Sunday, Feb. 25-27, at the Southern New Mexico Speedway. On Friday, gates will open at 5 p.m. with racing getting underway at 6:30. On Saturday and Sunday, gates will open at noon with racing getting underway at 2 p.m.

The 2011 season marks the 16th running of the USRA Modified Winter Meltdown and fifth year for the Chub Daniels Memorial.

The USRA Winter Meltdown and Chub Daniels Memorial are presented by Mesilla Valley Transportation, Border International Trucks Sales and Barnett's Harley-Davidson of El Paso and Las Cruces.

Previous champions include Don Veal (1995), Eddie Martin (1996), Danny Bradford (1997), Monte Bolton (1998), Ron Jones (1999-2001, 2003, 2007), Terry Tipton (2002), George White (2004), Johnny Scott (2006), Terry Phillips (2009) and defending champion Jason Hughes (2005, 2008, 2010).
