Remainder of season canceled at Cresco

by Tom Barnes

Executive Secretary, Howard County Fair Board

CRESCO, Iowa (June 29, 2001) - M & J Promotions of West Union, IA have canceled rest of season at Cresco Speedway (Iowa). They sight not enough attendence. Real reasons are known to those close to the speedway. As a result the Fair Board has terminated the lease of the speedway to M & J Promotions effective July 2, 2001.

This coming Sunday night, July 1, M & J will hold their last race, as MidSeason Championships. That night the Fair Board will be asking for the fan's and racer's options on the future of the speedway.

The Howard County Fair Board is evaluating various options for the rest of this season. Four options include:

a. Close for the season. THis will give Board time to renovate the track (new clay and rebank the track) and make necessary repairs to the grandstand complex.

b. Finish the season with the Fair Board running the track on Sunday nights.

c. Finish the season with the Fair Board running the track on Friday nights.

d. Try to hold a couple of special events for this year.

In any of the above options, the Board will make every effort to secure a respected promoter for the 2002 season. Contacts have been made aready.

Also please note the September 2 IRA Outlaw Sprint race with Stocks and Hobbies WILL BE HELD AS SCHEDULED. (This always has been promoted by the Fair Board).

Your honest option is welcome. The Fair Board has worked hard to make the facility one that fans and competitors like and look forward to attending. It is very unfortunate turn of fate for the speedway, but as they say there is always a silver lining in every cloud.

Should you have any questions or concerns about any of the program handled by M & J Promotions, contact them directly at 319-422-3175.

Should you have any options or helpful suggestions for the future of the speedway, contact myself or post a reply.
