New Northeast Iowa modified tour taking shape

CEDAR FALLS, Iowa (Feb. 4, 2002) - Racing Promoters of the Midwest (RPM) are proud to present the Northeast Iowa Mod Tour. Racing will begin in June and will feature some of the best modified drivers in Northeast Iowa and beyond. With names like Corey Dripps, Darin Duffy, Troy Cordes, Vern Jackson and more, one would expect a great battle for the $500 to win each night. Each driver who starts the A-main will earn $100.

Bucky Doren and Chris Marchese of RPM will run a limited scheudle in 2002. Currently three races are on the schedule -- Cresco, Independence and Echo Valley -- and they are working with two more Northeast Iowa promoters -- Nordic Speedway in Decorah and Benton County Speedway in Vinton -- for dates in 2002.

The current schedule starts at Cresco Speedway on June 26 during the Mighty Howard County Fair. After that, the Modifieds will race on July 10 at Independence Motor Speedway during the Buchanan County Fair. The season will wrap up at Echo Valley Speedway in West Union on Sept. 28. Since the dates at Cresco and Independence fall during their county fairs, fans can expect to see some great races.

"Fair time always brings out something in the drivers. It's always a great show," said Marchese.

Marchese aslo said that late models are also scheduled to appear during both fair dates. Echo Valley will host one of your last chances to catch racing before the cars are put away for the winter.

"What driver doesn't want to end the season with a win?" said Doren. "It sound be a real dog fight."

Doren said that the sponsor search is going well.

"We are working with a handful of sponsors that would like to be a part of the NEI Mod Tour in 2002," added Doren. "For the drivers, fans, promoters and sponsors, it should be a great year of racing for everyone invovled."
