LAS CRUCES, N.M. -- Three nights of hard rain left the infield floating in water as the USRA Western Flyer HotMods highlighted the action at the Southern New Mexico Speedway Satruday night.

In the main event, the battle for the lead was good from the start as Dickie Gorham had his hands full with Josh Gallardo. Working the high line, Gorham held the lead as Tom Conner ran third.

Starting to move through the field, Christie Georges was shadowed by Patrick Carney as both drivers worked their way through the top 10 before the caution waved for three cars that stopped on the track.

Back to green, Gorham again had his hands full with 15 laps to go as Gallardo took over the top spot with Kenny Medina taking third on the restart from Conner. Making the move into second, Medina worked on running down Gallardo as Geroges and Carney moved into the top 5.

Into the runner-up spot flew Georges as Gallardo worked into slower traffic before the caution waved for Jeremy Navarro.

On the restart with eight laps to go, the fight for the lead was three wide with the high line open just enough for Carney to steal the top spot where the El Paso racer was able to run away with the win.

Geroges, Rob Madrid, Gorham and Dusty Riggs rounded out the top 5.

Navarro, Gallardo, Medina and Connor took heat race wins in the USRA Western Flyer HotMods.

The next show at the Southern New Mexico Speedway will be Saturday, Aug. 13, as the USRA RHS Modifieds return for the 2nd Annual Special Olympics Benefit Night.

Gates to the grandstands will open at 5:30 p.m. with racing getting underway at 7:45.

Admission will be $10 for adults. Kids ages 11-15, members of the military, seniors, law enforcement personnel and university students getting in for $7 while children 10 and under get in for free.

The Southern New Mexico Speedway is located 11 miles west of Las Cruces at the Southern New Mexico State Fairgrounds. Take exit 132 off I-10, turn left to Robert Larson Blvd., and then head west to the Speedway.
