Donlinger, Kanz conquer Deer Creek

SPRING VALLEY, Minn. -- Jacob Bleess jumped to the high side early on in the USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mod feature Saturday night at the Deer Creek Speedway, and used momentum to shoot out past Drew Lawson as they exited turn 2. Jake Timm moved into second on lap two with the caution flying on lap three. On the restart Timm was working low on Bleess for the lead while Brandon Hare and Erik Kanz battled for third. Behind them Lawson and Shaun Walski raced for fifth. Eight down and Timm is all over Bleess but suddenly slows in three and four bringing out the caution. On the restart Bleess again led with Hare and Kanz racing for second. Kanz took over the second spot and started to challenge Bleess for the lead. Bleess kept his machine wound up on the top side of the speedway while Kanz selected the middle of the speedway to make his run. With thirteen down Kanz was finally credited with the lead. The final caution came out on lap sixteen setting up a green, white, checker dash to the finish. Bleess moved low on the speedway and started to pressure Kanz up front on the restart but Kanz was too strong in the middle of the track taking home the win over Bleess and Hare. Walski and Kylie Kath rounded out the top five. Heat races were won by Hare, Lawson and Parker Hale.

It was going to be hard to beat that feature but the USRA RHS Modifieds were up to the challenge. On the drop of the green Mike Sorensen and Kurt Krauskopf raced for the lead. Tim Donlinger joined in the fray at the completion of lap one as they went across the line three wide. Krauskopf took over the point on lap two running up against the wall while Donlinger moved into second. A caution with six down bunched the field back up and on the restart Krauskopf took off into the lead. Brandon Davis and Donlinger battled for second with Jason Cummins in fourth. With ten down Krauskopf lost the lead to Donlinger but regained it on lap eleven as Cummins moved past Davis for third. Donlinger led lap twelve as the leaders crossed the line side by side. Donlinger would continue to hold the lead now but Krauskopf was not letting him get away as he held to his outside rear quarter panel around the speedway. Mark Teske and Dan Bohr had their own battle going for fifth as the leaders now entered traffic. Cummins used the traffic to his advantage taking over the second spot. On lap twenty one Donlinger and Cummins crossed the line side by side with Donlinger holding the advantage. At the finish it was Donlinger with the win. Cummins, Davis, Bohr and Josh Angst rounded out the top five.

Racing action resumes next Saturday with the Pork Producers on hand giving away free sandwiches to the early arriving fans and drivers and then again after the races they will be giving away more sandwiches in the pit area. Racing starts at 6 p.m.
