2000 Season Champions named at Hancock County Speedway

BRITT, IA (Aug. 25, 2000) — The first track champions of the new millennium were decided last Friday night (August 25) at the Hancock County Speedway. Earl Webner of Garner in the Hobby Stock class and Larry Cook of Ft Dodge in the Limited 360 Modified were defending champions in their respective classes and both were successful in the defense of their title. Both drivers started on the pole, a position they earned by leading the points going into the season championship. Both Webner and Cook won their features to nail down their titles for the 2000 season.

Cook finished ahead of Steve Inman of Mason City in the night's race and in the points battle. This was Inman's rookie year in the Limited mod class and he was very consistent and impressive in his first season. This was the third season for the Limited Mods at Britt and Cook has been the track champion all three years.

The Stock Car title went to Scott Bloemke of Belmond who had led the point battle most of the season. Bloemke also started on the pole and lead the entire event holding off Jeff Dolphin of Forest City and Kevin Opheim of Mason City. Bloemke's motor was claimed after the feature and he did sell to Todd Wendel of Mason City. This is Bloemke's first track championship at Britt.

Mike Hejna of Clear Lake is the new 2000 Modified track champion. Mike started from the pole with brother Al beside him in the front row. Al did win the season championship race, but Mike had the points battle locked up for the season title. Mike finished second in the race with Ron Pope of Mason City in third and Todd Stinehart of Waseca MN in fourth for the night. This is Mike's second track championship at Britt. He was the champion in 1996.

Stellar Industries, Inc. of Garner were the sponsors of the 2000 Season Championship night. They also sponsored and presented the trophies along with some nice giveaways for the fans. Stellar also awarded an extra bonus to one of the feature winners for the night. All four feature winners names were put in a hat and the driver whose name was drawn was the winner of a brand new portable StellArc welder valued at over $2,500. Stellar will also install the system in the driver's truck. The eligible feature winners were: Cook, Webner, Bloemke, and Al Hejna. The name drawn was Larry Cook #10C Limited Modified feature winner.

The regular point season is over for 2000, but there is still some great racing action to come. On Friday September 15 & Saturday September 16 the Hancock County Speedway will hold is first two day fall show. The Minneapolis Auto Auction Fall Challenge will feature all four classes competing for two days of racing action.
