FLIPPIN, Ark. -- The first night of summer racing at North Central Arkansas Speedway got underway with mid-summer like temperatures, forcing the drivers to adapt to a drier then usual race surface.

John Briggs and Jason Snodgrass led the field to the start of the USRA Modified feature, and as the cars crossed the line for the opening lap Briggs held a slim lead over Snodgrass, with Stephen Muilenburg making it a three-wide fight at the front going down into turn one.

Muilenburg climbed to the top of the leaderboard on lap 2, with Briggs and Snodgrass racing side by side as they tried to claim the second spot early on.

A lap 7 spin by Rob Muilenburg brought out the first of three cautions, and Kandy Methvin took advantage of the bunched field on the restart to move up into the second spot, followed by Briggs and Snodgrass who were still locked in a fierce battle over upper real estate on the scorecard.

Snodgrass was able to get past Briggs for third on lap 9, just before another yellow flag waved on lap 10, once again for a solo spin. Rob Snodgrass moved into the second spot as Methvin slowed for a flat tire that brought out the final yellow flag of the race on lap 14.

Ray Flippin took advantage of the restart following the final caution to move into second, and Rob was able to move around Briggs to claim fourth after swapping spots with Briggs over the final two laps of the race.

NCAS has another full race program on tap for Friday night, June 29, with the traditional candy toss scheduled for children 12 and under during intermission, as well as another Racing for Education give-away for the kids during the break in the racing action.

North Central Arkansas Speedway is located between Yellville and Flippin on Hwy. 62-412. The gates open at 6:00 on Friday nights, with the racing starting at 8:00.
