North Central Arkansas Speedway checkers to Muilenburg, Flippin

YELLVILLE, Ark. -- For the second week in a row fans turn out in good numbers to watch another great night of dirt track racing this evening at North Central Arkansas Speedway.

Ray Flippin paced the field to the start of the 25-lap USRA B-Mod feature, leading the race for all but a single lap on the way to the Father’s Day Special feature win. Behind Flippin, the action was intense with drivers swapping spots throughout the event. Cain Foster started outside the front row and was able to hold on to the second spot for a single circuit before Steve Muilenburg moved from his ninth place starting spot into second place on lap two.

Charlie Gentile soon was challenging Muilenburg and grabbed the second spot on lap four when Muilenburg slipped up the track. Muilenburg got himself back into second with a pass on the bottom of the speedway on lap eight. After struggling to find a place to run early on Terry Phillips found the bottom groove and began to pass cars taking over fifth on lap eight. The first yellow flag of the race came out on lap ten for a single car spin in turn four and with the field bunched for the restart Flippin had his hands full with Muilenburg as the two raced side-by-side for three full trips around the speedway before Muilenburg got to the lead on lap thirteen.

Flippin trailed Muilenburg for only a single column on the score-sheet before getting back into the lead for good on lap fourteen. With the leaders fighting for position at the front of the field on the restart, Darrin Crissler got into fifth behind Phillips and after looking for a way past high and low, Crissler used the bottom groove to grab fourth on lap thirteen. Caution fell on the speedway again on lap nineteen for debris in turn four and the restart allowed Phillips and Bobby Ratteree to move into third and fourth respectively as the bottom lane proved to be the quicker line over the closing laps.

Muilenburg tried to challenge Flippin as the field entered turns one and two but Flippin was able to maintain his advantage down the back straight and drive to the win. After falling to sixth on the restart, Crissler passed Gentile for fifth on lap twenty-one and then got past Ratteree on lap twenty-two but could never close on Phillips to fight for third.

The USRA Modified feature was the final race on the track for the night, taking the green flag with Corey Weir and Rusty Weir out in front of the pack. Kandy Methvin took over the second spot from Rusty on the opening circuit and was able to grab the lead from Corey on lap two. Caution came out on lap four as Corey spun in turn one, and with Muilenburg in the second spot on the restart it was a fight for the lead for several laps with Methvin glued to the very bottom of the track and Muilenburg running the very high groove around the speedway.

After fighting side-by-side and nose-to-tail for several laps Muilenburg dove to the bottom of the track and moved Methvin up high, allowing Steve to take the lead. A Methvin spin on lap twelve of the twenty-five lap Father’s Day Special set up the final run of the night, and with Steve out front Rob Muilenburg moved up into the second spot with Methvin following close behind to claim third.

The next night of racing action will be Friday night, June 21st. North Central Arkansas Speedway is located between Yellville and Flippin on Hwy. 62-412.
