WHEATLANd, Mo. -- Cool temps and hot racing were the order of the evening this past Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Lucas Oil Speedway as Jon Sheets of Nevada captured the $1,000-to-win USRA Modified main event win.

Sheets led the field to the green flag from the pole position but slipped back to third before racing his way back to the lead and the win.

John Allen, always in the hunt, finished second after starting fifth while Jeff Cutshaw worked his way to third at the finish after starting in the sixth spot. Terry Schultz struggled in his heat race but charged from twelfth to fourth at the finish.

The drive of the night may have belonged to Wheatland's Jason Pursley as he scored a top-5 finish driving all the way from his 19th starting position on a track that was difficult to pass.

Heat race winners included Jason Russell, Sheets, Steve Muilenburg and Lyle Dietrich.
