KANSAS CITY, Kan. -- It was a night of firsts at Lakeside Speedway Friday.

Fifteen-year-old Trevor Hunt showed the poise and consistency of a veteran as he dominated the 25-lap USRA Modified feature, picking up his first career victory.

The Kearney, Mo., native was able to hold off hot-shoes Darron Fuqua and Mark Schafman lap after lap by sticking to the cushion on the high side of the half-mile facility.

Even slower cars and lapped traffic proved no match for Hunt as he encountered both by lap 13.

Fuqua and Schafman ended up second and third, respectively, just behind Hunt at the finish line.

Jared Stiens and Kerry Davis had good runs, rounding out the top-five.

Yancy Shepard drove to his first win in the USRA B-Mod feature by working his way through the field.

Starting inside row 3, the Smithville, Mo., native needed the first one-third of the race to take the lead from Luke Nieman.

Once in the lead not even slow cars or lapped traffic would deny him the victory in the 15-lap event.

Chad Clancy and Randal Schiffelbein Jr. raced each other lap after lap, eventually finishing second and third, respectfully.

Current USRA B-Mod national points leader Jake Richards made a sweeping move at the end to get around Nieman to take fourth.

Even with an early and late caution the USRA Stock Cars put on one of the best shows of the night.

Tonight was Marshall Jewett’s night to shine as the Gardner native led the entire 15-lap feature on his way to picking up his first win of the season.

Kevin Anderson showed great consistency by holding off former champions Justin Seifert and Brett Heeter lap after lap.

They finished second, third and fourth, respectively, while Joe Smith Jr. rounded out the top-five.

Marshall Jewett won the USRA Stock Car feature at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, Kan., on Friday, May 2.

“Racing on the River's Edge” continues every Friday night through October with the USRA Modifieds, Grand Nationals, USRA B-Mods and USRA Stock Cars. Gates open at 5 p.m., hot laps begin at 6:45 and the first race gets under way at 7:30. Adult ticket prices are $12, kids ages 7-12 are $6 and children 6 and younger are admitted free. Seniors and military personnel with ID are admitted for $10.
