Gopher State doubleheader up next for USMTS North Region

WEBSTER CITY, Iowa (Aug. 21, 2001) - The United States Modified Touring Series will make its second appearance to two Minnesota tracks -- Chateau Raceway in Lansing and Dodge County Speedway in Kasson -- this Wednesday and Thursday, Aug. 22-23.

In the first visit to these two tracks, Mike Chasteen picked up the win and pocketed the $2,000 paycheck each night.

One major change at the Chateau Raceway was the change in the tire rule. Lansing, which normally runs under WISSOTA rules and allows the Hoosier tire, USMTS has made this race a "no Hoosier race" and will allow only the American Racer tire. We are going to try and get the most cars to the speedway and feel that more racers have this tire than the Hoosier -- that is the major reason for trying this. This will also allow drivers to carry only one set of tires on their trailers.

The racing will get underway at Chateau Raceway on Wednesday with hot laps at 7 p.m. and racing at 7:30. Forty-three cars checked in for the racing action at Lansing last time before rain set in, forcing officials to reschedule the race. When the race was rescheduled, 41 cars checked back in with a full grandstand watching the action on this 1/4-mile speedway.

On Thursday, the series will move back to the Dodge County Fairgrounds for another visit. Chasteen and Minnesota's Tim Donlinger put on a great show for the full house in Kasson in June. Forty-three cars were on hand for the racing action.

Going into these two races Kelly Shryock maintains a small points lead over Jason Hughes.

A very strong field of cars is expected for these two events. Some of the expected drivers, including Shryock, Hughes, Chasteen and Donlinger, are Tommy Myer, Mark Noble, Jay Ihrke, Todd Klees, Mike Sorensen, Bob Timm, Kevin Peters, Johnny Bone, Corey Dripps, Mike Spaulding, Brad Waits, Steve Wetzstein, Nathan Kilwine, Jason Slegh, Brad McEwan, Rick Gustin, plus many many more.

Next week will be the last points race in the North Region with a stop to the Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, S.D., on Thursday, Aug. 30. This race will also be a race that will be on American Racer Tires only.
