Timm and Pember win

ARCADIA, Wis. (Aug. 9, 2002) - Bob Timm picked up his second feature win of the season in the modified class at the Fox Ridge Speedway Friday night.

Timm gained the advantage on Wayne Engen at the start of the 25 lap main event by flying to the cushion from outside row one starting spot. Engen chased Timm for the first eight laps as Eric Pember, Steve Speltz and Les Duellman battled behind the lead two. A lap eight caution for a spinning John Doelle bunched the field. The restart narrowed Timm and Engen's margin, a few laps later Pember closed on Engen and passed the rookie pilot on lap 13.

Duellman disposed of Engen on lap 16 placing him third. During the closing laps of the race, Pember was able to close on Timm's lead, but never to the point were the lead was challenged. The top five were Timm, points leader Pember, Duellman, Engen, and LeRoy Sharkey.

"We changed the entire suspension during intermission," Timm said. "The changes we made helped the car drive a whole lot better through the corners. The track was a little rougher on the cushion tonight," said Timm.

Mark Teske's pursuit of the Wissota national championship in the super stock class came one step closer to reality. Teske the unofficial points leader gained yet another win in the super stock feature.

The Spring Valley, Minn. chassis builder wheeled his own creation to the 20 lap victory. Teske made an aggressive move on the opening lap to gain the lead. Starting on the outside of row two, Teske made the bold move of hanging out on the cushion as the other drivers dove through the low groove of turns one and two.

Teske cruised past front row starters Jon Duffy and Ben Anderson and sped off to the lead. The field was only able to run one lap before a multiple car pileup just off turn two slowed the field. The caution would fly again without a lap being completed when Phil Kendrick and Tracy Larson tangled.

Teske pulled away from Duffy on the second restart. Anderson took over the second spot on lap six as Jason Johnson and points leader Gary Wiersgalla looked to improve their placing in the top five. Johnson moved into the runner-up spot on lap ten and one lap later Wiersgalla passed Anderson for third. Wiersgalla pulled alongside Johnson late in the race but was unable to complete the pass.

Teske led the race green to checkered, Johnson, Wiersgalla, Anderson, and Troy Brand rounded out the top five. Teske said the key to the race was the strategic move he made on the opening lap. "I wondered if I scared those guys when I went around them in turn one," he quipped. "The car was fast on the top and I just decided that's where I had to go get around them", Teske said.

Teske has spent the last few weeks of the season concentrating on the super stock after also driving a late model earlier in the season. "When you have two cars, one tends to get neglected while you work on the other one. We were too close to the national points thing to not go for it," Teske said.

Pember and Timm swapped roles in the 15 lap late model feature. Pember jumped out to the lead as Timm was faced with the task of chasing Pember down. Pember lead the caution free event from start to finish.

Keith Foss trailed the twosome early in the race before Steve Isenberg made his presence felt. Isenberg took over the third spot on lap six from Foss. Two laps later, Scott Cramer also passed Foss taking over fourth.

While Pember kept a safe margin between himself and Timm, Cramer was closing on Isenberg for the third spot. Timm was able to close ground on Pember at the finish but a much needed caution never came and Pember garnered the win. Cramer and Isenberg displayed a last lap dramatic battle with Cramer ducking under Isenberg in turn four and the winning the three spot by inches at the finish. Foss rounded out the top five.

Travis Krause picked up the street stock feature win as last weeks winner Shawn Wehlage took home the runner-up duties. Krause used the same strategy as Teske and made the daring high side pass to take the top spot on the opening lap of the street feature.

While Krause and Wehlage pulled away from the field, Jeremy Sommer and Danny Hanson worked hard to move up. The seventh starting Sommer entered the top five on lap three and moved inot the three hole when he passed Tom Hund on lap ten. The tenth starting Hanson didn't enter the top five until lap eleven. A last lap altercation in turn four involving Hund and Hanson resulted in Hund spinning. Hanson steadied his car to come home fourth. Dennis Davis finished fifth while Hund was relegated to 13th.
