Shelton, Spilker new winners while Burgtorf returns to Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway victory lane

MEMPHIS, Mo. -- The USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series continued at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway Saturday, with Mike Shelton (USRA Hobby Stocks) and Craig Spilker (Cruisers) picking up their first feature wins of the season on Memphis Democrat/Scotland County Lanes Night. Also claiming feature victories were Mark Burgtorf (USRA Modifieds), Troy Alexander (USRA Stock Cars), Jack Evans Jr. (USRA B-Modifieds) and Tyler Schulte (Hornets).

The first feature on the evening was the 12-lap USRA B-Modified feature, with Evans and Tony Dunker leading the field to the drop of the green flag. Evans grabbed the advantage on the start to lead lap 1, with last week's winner close behind in second. Evans led all 12 laps to claim his second win of the season at Memphis. Ron York held off Dunker for third and Jeff Waterman came from 10th to finish fourth, with Jerry Reese Jr. coming from the rear to finish in fifth. Newcomer Joe Blivens and York picked up heat race wins.

Jason Cook and Michael Browning made up the front row for the 12-lap USRA Stock Car feature, with Cook taking the lead on the drop of the green flag. Cook held the top spot until lap 3, when Browning got into the back of Cook's car with Cook sent spinning. Both drivers were sent to the back for the restart, with Troy Alexander inheriting the lead for the restart. Alexander led the final 9 laps to pick up his second consecutive feature win at the Speedway. Matt Greiner edged Cook, who came from the rear, at the line by inches for second. Browning came back to fourth, with John Oliver Jr. rounding out the top-5. Heat winners were Greiner and Cook.

Up next was the 15-lap USRA Hobby Stock feature, with Tim Pettibone and Mike Shelton setting the pace for the start. Shelton took advantage of his front row start to jump into the lead on lap 1, with Pettibone and Matt Snyder battling close behind for second. Shelton then held the top spot until lap 10 when Tony Becerra, who started 10th, slipped under him for the lead. Becerra looked to be heading for his first win of the season until Brandon Symmonds got into the back of him coming out of turn 4 for the checkers. Becerra and Symmonds tangled, which allowed Shelton to go back by to claim his first win of the season at Memphis. Snyder was second, Josh Soper was third, Bob Lynch came from 11th to finish in fourth, with Justin Hamelton coming from 12th to finish fifth. Mark Holt, Jimmy Hooper and Becerra picked up heat race wins.

The 10-lap Cruiser feature was next to hit the Speedway, with Craig Spilker moving out front on lap 1 from his front row starting spot. Spilker held off a charging Dave Hudson, who started ninth, on the final lap to pick up his first win of the season. Michael St. Clair came from 11th to finish in third, Larry Powell was fourth, with Keith Reed rounding out the top-5. Spilker and Bill O'Haver picked up heat race wins.

Third-place starter Tyler Schulte quickly moved out front on the drop of the green flag in the 10-lap Hornet feature, with Andrew Hustead following in second. Tyler led all 10 laps to claim his second consecutive feature win at Memphis. Dennis Schulte came from 10th to finish in second, Hustead was third, Jayson Barnes was fourth, with Danny Miller coming home in fifth. Heat race winners were Hustead and Dennis Schulte.

The final feature of the evening was the 20-lap USRA Modified feature. Phillip Cossel and Mark Burgtorf made up the front row, with Burgtorf grabbing the advantage on the drop of the green flag to lead lap 1. Burgtorf, who suffered motor troubles a week ago, survived two caution flags to pick up his third win of the season at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway. Michael Long finished second for the third time this season, Ken Bryant charged from 11th to finish third, Bob Dale was fourth, with Tim Bradley coming from 10th to round out the top-5. Burgtorf and Tony Fraise claimed heat race wins.

Coming up next week will be MFA Elevator Night, with the Ideal Ready Mix Sprint Invaders making there first of two visits this season to the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway. The chase for the USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series continues in the USRA Modified, Stock Car, B-Modified and Hobby Stock classes, with the Cruisers and Hornets also battling for track points. Gates will open at 5 p.m., hot laps are at 6:15 and racing action following.
