Smyser, Elston pick up Late Model wins at Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway

MEMPHIS, Mo. -- The fans were treated to not just one Late Model feature, but two on Kirksville Brake and Muffler Night at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway. Plus the quest for the USRA Casey's Ceneral Stores Championships continued in the other six classes. Finding their way to victory lane on the evening were Chris Smyser (Make-up Late Models), Tommy Elston (Late Models), Tony Fraise (USRA Modifieds), Jason Cook (USRA Stock Cars), Jack Evans Jr (USRA B-Modifieds), Mike Shelton (USRA Hoby Stocks), Dave Hudson (Cruisers) and Brandon Savage (Hornets).

The first feature to take to the track was the rained out Late Model feature from May 21st, Trump Trucks and Sonny's Collision Center Night. Reid Millard and Chris Smyser made up the front row for the 20 lap main event, with Smyser jumping out front on the drop of the green flag. Smyer would go on to lead all 20 laps to pick up his first win of the season at Memphis. Tommy Elston came in second, Mark Burgtorf was third, Jody Wood was fourth, with Millard coming from the rear after his six lap spin to round out the top five.

Brent Forest and Dave Burdette led the field to the drop of the green in the 10 lap Hornet feature, with Burdette taking the top spot on lap 1. Brandon Savage, who started sixth, worked his way to the front on lap 4, to over take Burdette for the lead. Savage then held on for the final 6 laps to calim his fourth win of 2005 at the speedway. Burdette was second, Dennis Schulte came from 8th to finish third, Forest was fourth, with Travis DeMint coming home in fifth. Schulte and Savage picked up wins in the heat races.

Next up was the 10 lap Cruiser feature, with Keith Reed and Daniel Robbins on the front row. Reed took advantage of his start to lead lap 1, with Dave Hudson close behind in second. Reed held the top spot until lap 5, when Hudson slipped by for the lead. Hudson then led the final 5 laps to pick up his second win of the season at Memphis. Reed held on to finish second, Jeremy Buss came from 8th to come home third, Bill O'Haver was fourth, with Robbins rounding out the top five. Heat race winners were Hudson and Buss.

Twenty-four USRA Hobby Stocks took to the track for their 15 lap feature, with Jerard Fisher and Mike Shelton drawing the front row for the feature. Shelton grabbed the lead on the start, with Brian Clark and Fisher battling for second. Shelton would lead all 15 laps and held off several challenges from Tony Becerra, who started 8th, to claim his 3rd win of the season at the speedway. Brian Howerton came from 9th to finish 3rd, Bob Lynch was 4th, with Michael St.Clair coming from 12th to round out the top 5. Clark, Shelton and Becerra claimed wins in the heat races.

The 12 lap USRA B-Modifieds feature was the next event, with Jack Evans Jr and Chris Larson leading the field to the drop og the green flag. Evans Jr would take the lead on lap 1, with Larson and Jeff Waterman close behind. Evans Jr then led all 12 laps to pick up his fifth win of the season at Memphis. Jerry Poor came from 9th to finish in second, Jerry Reese Jr was third, Waterman was fourth, with Michael Browning charging up from 15th to come home in fifth. Heat race winners were Larson and Logan Trueblood.

Jim Redman and Lorne Parks led the 15 lap USRA Stock Car feature to the green, with Parks moving out front on lap 1. Parks continued to hold the top spot, while Jason Cook, who started 8th, and Ryan Cook, who started 10th in his frist time back behind the wheel of his 27R machine, were working there way towards the front. Parks, J.Cook and R.Cook came out of turn four on lap 13 three wide, with J.Cook edging ahead at the line to grab the lead. J.Cook then held off R.Cook over the next two laps to claim his third win in a row at the speedway. Parks held on for third, Matt Greiner charged from 17th to finish in fourth, with Troy Alexander rounding out the top five. Parks and J.Cook picked up the heat race wins.

Up next was the 20 lap USRA Modified feature, with Ryan Meyer and Jim Roach leading the field to the drop og the green flag. Meyer would take the lead on lap 1 and then held it until lap 6, when Tony Fraise slipped under him for the top spot. Fraise then went on to lead the final 14 laps to pick up his third win in a row at Memphis. Mark Burgtorf came from 7th to finish in second, Meyer held on to third, Kevin Cale was fourth, with Bob Dale coming home in fifth. Heat race winners were Fraise and Meyer.

The final feature of the evening was the 20 lap Late Models, with Reid Millard and Chris Smyser on the front row. Millard would move out front on lap 1, with Smyser close behind in second. Millard would hold the top spot until lap 6, when Tommy Elston, who started 8th, over took Millard for the lead. Elston then led the final 14 laps to claim his first win of the season at the speedway. Smyser was second, Millard was third, Mark Burgtorf was fourth, with Jeff Gerhardt rounding out the top five. Jody Wood and Elston picked up the heat race wins.

Coming up Tuesday, July 19th will be the Scotland County Fair Race, sponsored by Verly Gordy, 20/20 Motorsports and Pam's Cakes. The Sprint Invaders will be the highlight of the evening, with the Modifieds, Stock Cars and Hobby Stocks also on the card. The Sprints will be going for $1,000 to win, the Modifieds will also be going for $1,000 to win, Stock Cars for $500 to win, thanks to Cunningham Fertilizer, and the Hobby Stocks for $300 to win. Gates will open at 4:30pm, hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30. Grandstand admission will be Adults $13, Kids 6-12 $3 and Kids 5 and under FREE! Pit passes will be $25.

There will be no races at the Bentz GM Country Scotland County Speedway on July 23rd, due to the fair. Racing will continue on July 30th, with Wood Amoco BP sponsoring another Late Model special.
