CRESCO, Iowa -- The USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series continued Sunday at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa, with both familiar and first-time faces gracing victory lane. Darin Duffy (USRA Modifieds), Scott Bauer (USRA Stock Cars) and Justin Elsbernd (USRA Hobby Stocks) claimed the USRA-sanctioned feature wins, while Steve Gooder (Hornets) and Scott Splide (Street Stocks) were also victorious on the night.

In the USRA Modified main event, Kevin Pittman of Waterloo accepted the Budweiser Back Row Challenge and started last in the 20-car field. With five feature wins under his belt this season, Pittman's sixth would be worth an additional $700 to pull off the victory. From the drop of the green, Pittman thrilled the Cresco Speedway fans with precision passing as he moved through the field. When the checkered flag waved, Pittman had passed 18 cars, but had to settle for the runner-up position.

In Pittman's five wins this season, Darin Duffy of Hazleton had been the runner-up on four occasions. In total, he had accumulated five second-place finishes this year. But on Sunday, Duffy turned the tables as he motored to his first triumph of the season at the 3/8-mile oval from his seventh-place starting spot on the grid.

A trio of Winona, Minn., pilots rounded out the top-5 finishers with Karl Fenske coming home second, followed by Paul Hamernik and Kerry Ledebuhr. Ron Konkel finished sixth to hold on to his razor-thin points lead over Duffy in the USRA Modified title chase.

The USRA Stock Car feature race saw Scott Bauer of Riceville make his return to Cresco a successful one as he held off points leader Tom Schmitt of Independence for the win. Kevin Bidne of Decorah, Waucoma's Tory Reicks and Brian Gjere of Mabel, Minn., rounded out the top-5 finishers.

Justin Elsbernd of Des Moines charged from the 13th starting position to grab his sixth USRA Hobby Stock feature win of the season at Cresco. Ben Moudry of Protivin, points leader Steve Holthaus of Cresco, Patty Fosaaen of Waukon and Mitch Hovden finished in the second- through fifth-place positions.

Points leader Scott Splide of Ridgeway captured his eighth Street Stock main event victory of the season. Marc Banks of Waucoma, Jeremy Oakes of Spring Grove, Minn., Brandon Hare of Elma and Austin Curtin of Waukon completed the first five across the finish line.

Cresco's Chris Gooder ended Steve Dwyer's two-race win streak with his second Hornet triumph of the season. Ryan Happel of Holmen, Wis., finished second, with Adam Ewing of Monona third. Dwyer, from La Crosse, Wis., took home fourth-place money with Andy Stinson of Ridgeway taking fifth.

The USRA Casey's General Stores Championship Series will continue next Sunday, Aug. 14, at the Cresco Speedway with racing in all classes as the title chases head into the final summer stretch.
