Thunderhill looking for rain-free weekend

MAYETTA, Kan. -- After an unplanned week off at Thunderhill Speedway last week due to the unpredictable Kansas weather, racing action will return this weekend to the Mayetta, KS speedway. The Thundersprints will headline the show as they will attempt to duplicate a two spectacular early season shows. They will be joined by the USRA Modified, Superstock, USRA Hobby Stock and USRA Stock Cars.

Travis Patch has claimed wins in the first two races of the season in the USRA Modifieds, placing him in prime position to make a run for his second straight track championship, as well as placing him in contention for the USRA National Championship. Jim Powell claimed the first and only race of the season in the USRA Stock Cars at Thunderhill, as he will look return to the top spot once again. Brad LaBonte has led only two laps this season in USRA Hobby Stock feature events, but those two laps have been good enough to lock up two feature victories. LaBonte’s last lap victories have been at the expense of Fred Noll and Tim Patch, two drivers who will also be top contenders in the division this season. The Superstock class has been dominated by the Stallbaumer family, with Matt picking up the win on night one and Kyle grabbing the top spot on night two. Chad Meinholdt holds one victory in the Thundersprints, while Jack Potter surprised the field in his 305 Sprint to claim the win on their second night.

Thunderhill Speedway is located 14 miles north of Topeka on Hwy. 75 and two miles west on 142nd Rd. Gates open at 5 PM, with hot laps at 7, and races starting at 7:30. General admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors, $5 for children 7-13, and ages 6 and under are admitted free with a paid adult. Due to an a number of rain-outs early in the season, Thunderhill Speedway has also scheduled races for Wednesday, May 10. USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA Hobby Stocks and Pony Stocks will be in action. Details regarding this race will be released soon.
