Kevin Pittman of Waterloo captured the opening night checkers in the USRA Modified class.

CRESCO, Iowa - Mother Nature hasn't been kind to the Cresco Speedway so far this season, but on Friday night she finally gave in and served up superb weather for the 2007 season opener at the 4/10-mile clay oval. On a beautiful night for racing, Kevin Pittman (USRA Modifieds), Kurt Krauskopf (USRA Stock Cars), Raymond Lundry (USRA B-Mods), Brandon Hare (USRA Hobby Stocks) and Dillon Anderson (Outlaw Hobbys) took home season opening wins in the USRA Casey's General Stores Weekly Racing Series.

In the USRA Modified main event, Pittman of Waterloo drew the pole position and the defending track champion was never challenged on his way to victory. Shawn Ryan of Waterloo finished second, followed by Garner's Brad Bakken, Darrin Walch of Postville and Matt Sweeney of Waukon.

Kurt Krauskopf of Decorah held off defending track champion Tom Schmitt of Independence to take down the win in the USRA Stock Car feature race. Tory Reicks of Waucoma, Jake Ludeking of Decorah and Shawn Peter of Mabel, Minn., rounded out the top-5 finishers.

In USRA B-Mod action, Raymond Lundry of Maynard earned the victory with 2006 track champion Brian Kunkle of Oelwein finishing in the runner-up position. Third went to Tim Heins of Elkader, Jeremy LaPlant of Elgin was fourth and Waukon's Ron Liddiard completed the top-5.

Brandon Hare of Elma picked up the checkered flag in the USRA Hobby Stock main event, with Cresco's Steve Holthaus grabbing the runner-up paycheck. Bernie Adams of Stacyville was third, Nick Schwebach of Caledonia, Minn., was fourth and Chris Hovden of Cresco scored fifth-place points toward his USRA Hobby Stock title defense.

The Outlaw Hobby feature saw Decorah's Dillon Anderson bring home the trophy with Cody Cook of Decorah finishing second. Carl Colsch of Eitzen, Minn., Ben Moudry of Protivin and Pete Solum of Spring Grove, Minn., completed the top-5 finishers.

The Mighty Howard County Fairgrounds will come alive again next Friday, May 18, as Pepsi presents the USRA Casey’s General Stores Weekly Racing Series featuring USRA Modifieds, USRA Stock Cars, USRA B-Mods, USRA Hobby Stocks and Outlaw Hobbys. Gates will open at 5:30 p.m., with hot laps at 7:15 and racing getting underway at 7:30.
