SPRING VALLEY, Minn. — With almost unbearable high temps and high humidity a large contingent of USRA Modified drivers and a great crowd showed up on this early July weekend. A light breeze blew through the facility keeping spectators as cool as possible on the hot, 93-degree day. A total of 118 cars checked into the back gate on 1-800-radiator and KTTC TV night at the Deer Creek Speedway.

Brad Waits led laps 1 and 25 en route to another win in the EZ Fabricating USRA Modified field, but the win didn’t come easy with pressure and hard charges from throughout the field.

Mike Hejna was the first to challenge as he took over the second spot. The track was fast as the high-powered open-wheeled machines flew around the speedway.

With three laps down, Hejna pushed up the speedway with Mike Sorensen and Tommy Myer moving past him for second and third. A restart with 21 to go saw Sorensen in second and putting pressure on Waits on the inside lane. Jason Krohn was making his presence known as the worked past Hejna for fourth.

Another restart with 18 to go saw Waits continue to lead with Sorensen second, while Krohn and Myer battled for third. The run for Hejna came to an end as he slapped the turn 2 wall hard to end his night. On the restart, Krohn moved alongside of Waits a couple of times each circuit for next three laps but was unable to complete a pass. Sorensen and Myer had a great race going for third with Sorensen up high and Myer down low they ran side by side for many laps.

A final caution with five to go saw Myer and Sorensen get around Krohn for second and third. Sorensen held a slight edge as Myer pulled alongside at the completion of each lap. Waits came home with the win, Sorensen held on for second and Myer third.

A great night was had by everyone in attendance. Racing action continues next Saturday night with all five classes in action. Racing will start at 6:00.
