Caney Valley Speedway opens with a bang!
Gary Langworthy Jr. celebrates with his wife and crew after winning the USRA Modified feature at Caney Valley Speedway.
CANEY, Kan. - Finally the day had come for the track to make its debut after all the hard work that had been done, and there were plenty of people there to see it.
With a packed grandstand and over 60 cars, the night went as well as it could have for a first race.
The track was smooth and tacky with multiple grooves, and the races were done by 11 p.m. after three hours of racing in five classes.
And the drivers were surprised with some extra bonus money from local businesses.
Gary Langworthy Jr. of Coffeyville, Kan., claimed the opening night feature win for the USRA Modifieds, with John Allen coming home in the runner-up spot.
With week 2 next Saturday night, Aug. 9, let's hope for some cooler temperatures and a few more cars.
