Williams wins night two of Whitworth Spring Classic

HUMBOLDT, Kan. (March 21, 2026) — In 2025, Bobby Williams walked away with a championship but without an A-Feature victory. On Saturday night at Humboldt Speedway, the defending USRA Heartland Modified Tour presented by Real Racing Wheels champion erased that lingering storyline in dominant fashion.

Williams delivered a flawless performance from start to finish on night two of the Whitworth Spring Classic, sweeping the night by setting overall quick time in Deatherage Opticians Qualifying, winning Rick Beebe Heating & Air Conditioning Heat 1, drawing the pole for the 30-lap Pannell Chipping A-Feature, and leading every lap to secure his first career series victory. For Williams, it was the completion of unfinished business—and a statement to open the 2026 campaign.

“This was very hard. We ran all season [in 2025] and couldn’t get one but we just kept our noses to the ground and kept trying at it. I can’t believe I’m standing here talking to you. Shout out to Hughes Chassis, this thing is fast. Thank you to my dad and my uncle and Mike Striegel who was my crew chief all weekend. Man this is awesome!”

While the box score shows control, the race itself told a much different story.

A slick racing surface developed early in the feature, funneling much of the field to the bottom groove as drivers fought for grip and track position. As the race unfolded, however, multiple competitors began to experiment with the middle and top lanes, creating passing opportunities and keeping the pressure squarely on the leader. A string of cautions kept the field tightly bunched, and each restart presented a new challenger eager to take a shot at Williams.

Dustin Hodges was among the first to show speed, while Reece Solander and Shadren Turner each took their turns applying pressure in the runner-up spot. Tyler Davis, who has quietly put together one of the most consistent starts to the season, also entered the mix late, keeping Williams within striking distance as laps wound down. Despite the constant challenges and the stop-and-go rhythm, Williams never wavered, executing each restart with precision and maintaining control when it mattered most.

Behind him, the battle for podium positions remained just as intense. Davis ultimately secured the runner-up finish, continuing his strong start to the year, while Wyatt Gaggero capped off a solid night with a third-place run. Solander and Turner rounded out the top five after spending much of the race in contention.

One of the night’s pivotal moments came early when Trevor Hughes, a contender throughout qualifying and heat race action, was caught up in contact from behind and spun to a stop, bringing out a caution and sending the 712 machine to the tail of the field. Hughes regrouped and mounted an impressive recovery drive through the slick conditions, clawing his way back to a seventh-place finish.

Further back in the field, Chevy Coleman earned PEM Gears and Drivetrain Hard Charger honors, advancing from 19th to 12th in a race where passing was anything but easy.

The foundation for Williams’ dominant night was laid early. He paced Group A in Deatherage Opticians Qualifying with the fastest overall time of the night, while Hughes led Group B. Heat race wins went to Williams, Gaggero, Davis, and Solander, setting the stage for a competitive feature lineup. The Real Racing Wheels B-Feature transferred Hunter Sandy, Dakota Dale, Kenton Allen, and Paden Phillips into the main event.

With two nights complete to open the 2026 season, Davis leaves Humboldt Speedway as the early points leader, using back-to-back strong finishes to build a narrow advantage over Williams and Hughes in the standings. While Williams now has his first career HMT victory, Davis has positioned him as the early benchmark after the opening weekend of the 2026 campaign.

Up next the USRA Heartland Modified Tour heads to the Show-Me state for two nights of racing April 17th and 18th. Friday the 17th the series makes is inaugural visit to the Moberly Motorsports Park before turning it’s attention to popular tour stop I-35 Speedway on Saturday night.
